Reading the Rocks
I worked with the geologists at the American Museum of Natural History to present work that reflects the museum's educational style. I created the interface, illustrations and animations ready to be programed in Shockwave or coded in html.

The Hall of Planet Earth
Experience the process of examining scientific evidence. Choose thumbnail views or text-only searches, sort by age or location where the rock was found. Try database activities such as "Odd Rock Out" or create your own rock collection!

Examine the Evidence
Select a rock to begin the process of discovering what kind of rock it is, how it was formed, how old it is and in what part of the world it was found. Change views to examine your rock sample close up, magnified or under ultraviolet light.

Virtual Laboratories
Identify mystery rocks and minerals in the virtual laboratories. Going to the dating lab will help you find the age of your rock. Exploring the texture lab and reactivity lab will help you understand how your rock was made.

Mineral Lab
Minerals can help determine what kind of rock it is and where on Earth it came from. The tests in the mineral lab will help you identify mystery minerals by revealing their specific chemical composition and crystal structures.

Rock Oven
Follow the recipes to make your rock. Select the right recipe and follow it correctly and the oven will produce your rock, identifying it at last. See how heat, pressure and time changes sand, shells and even wood into rocks.

The Dynamic Earth
The Earth is always changing due to heat and pressure that changes and uplifts rocks and molten lava that creates mountains and islands. Try to place your rock in the correct geological zone to learn more about how your rock was formed!

Timeline
Students can placetheir rock on the geological timeline to learn about the period in which their rock was formed. See the timeline paintings at konkle.com/illustration/timeline.
