MEASURING FOR SQUARE -- MEASURING FOR CANVAS
After I sent the tent up, I took these measurements:
I 'squared it up' my measuring from corner to opposite corner. Once these two measurements were even I knew the tent was square. Then I measured long and schor sides, to make sure it was the size it purported to be on the label. it wasn't!
LABEL SIZE: 13 ft. (156") x 10 ft.(120")
ACTUAL SIZE: 12 ft.5 in. (149") x 9 ft. 6 in. (114")
So two widths of 63"cotton duck I'm buying WILL do one side (short) wall, even accounting for fabric shrinkage! YAY! And three widths of the fabric will cover the front and back (long) sides. Height of walls will be just shy of 6' 7" (79"). I plan on taking 1"of the height of the poles so the screen house white solid wall "wraparounds' are not sooooo tight. Those sections really help keep the roof on --they attach to the row of holes at the bottom of the 4 legs with little hooks, as shown on the right. I'll find a way to hang my canvas walls so they go over the wraparounds.
January 5th I Sent for the bolt of fabric and can't wait to get started sewing! With five extra yards I'm covered in case of miscalculations. At Kathy's request (she has camped a LOT more than I) the walls will cant out a bit to repel rain better, and add to the period look. That will increase the tent floor area by 12"on each side.
Also, I've drawn new designs on the tent--less painting but more impact!
