Began
Shakuhachi study with Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin , Kinko-Ryu Grandmaster,
student of Yodo Kurahashi after returning from a trip to Kyoto,
Japan.
1990
First Gaikyo-ku performances with
New York Sankyoku-Kai. Henry Horaku Burnett, Shamisen, Sherrie Hoshun
Kato, Koto. at Tenri Cultural Institute in N,Y.C. Performed Honkyoku
at Brooklyn Botanical Garden's Sakura Matsrui Festival.
1991
Gaikyo-ku performances with Kazumi Ichikawa,
Koto, and Henry Horaku Burnett, Shamisen , at Tenri Cultural Institute
in N,Y.C.
1994-1995
Performed duets with Kaoru Suzuki,
Koto, at the Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden's Moon Viewing
in North Salem, Westchester, N.Y. Gaikyo-ku performance at the Asia
Society in NYC
1995
Guest artist at the Brooklyn Unity
Awards Ceremony hosted by Howard Golden, Brooklyn Borough President.
Lecture demonstration for the monks of Dai-Bosatsu Zendo Monastery,
Livingston Manor, Catskill Mountains, NY Completed study of the
Kinko- Ryu Classical Repertoire (Okuden) advanced level.
1995
Concerts at Tenri Cultural Institute
in Soho, NYC and the Three Jewels Buddhist Reading Room on East
4th Street in NYC Master classes with Yoshio Kurahashi, Katsura
Yokoyama and Kifu Mitsuhashi.
1997
Awarded Jun-Shi Han Menjo (teaching
certificate) for Kinko-Ryu Shakuhachi by Ronnie Seldin. Given the
performance name "Nyohaku." Studied traditional Shakuhachi teaching
techniques. Directed and produced the Autumn Equinox Celebration
for St. Mark's Church in the Bowery, NYC in collaboration with the
Lara McDonnell Dance Company. Composed original music for the Shakuhachi
in the Honkyoku style.
1997
Music in the Tea House concert series
at the John Humes Japanese Stroll Garden. Recorded first compact
disk "Meditative Shakuhachi Solos." Dance Improvisation Project
with Lucy Mahler, dancer, and Kazuo Sato, jazz basist. Franklin
Street Performance Space, NYC Performed Honkyoku at Brooklyn Botanical
Garden's Sakura Matsuri Festival.
1999
Guest Artist at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage Concert Series,
livecast on the Internet (streaming audiovisual). Music in the Tea
House concert series at the John Humes Japanese Stroll Garden in
Mill Neck, Long Island, N.Y.
2000
