Managing
Automation
Richard
Shen and I proposed this project to Thomas Publishing Company. The concept
was to create a CD-ROM where companies would sign on to list goods and
services through a database that would help facilitate "Just-in-time"
manufacturing.

Just-In-Time
Manufacturing
Demonstrated
at a Chicago manufacturing trade show, the demo was well received and
Thomas Publishing gave us the go to develop the full product. I designed
the interface using an interactive factory floor as a navigation device.

The
Interactive Factory Floor
Each
area in the interactive factory floor describes a stage of production
from assembly lines to business offices. The "PDA" device expands
from the lower right corner of the screen and leads to the databases.

Manufacturing
Processes
Selecting
a factory
"room"
accesses the manufacturers
database.
I animated
the introduction in Macromedia Director's score. The interactive version
is done with Lingo script. On
time-out, the animation is a screen saver and loops.

Managing
Automation Magazine
Manufacturer's
that sign on get customized pages describing goods and services and linking
them to the database. The
CD-ROM ships with issues of "Managing Automation" magazine.
The project was so successful, it's now being published via the Internet.
