The Shubert Organization, owners of many of New York's Broadway theaters for generations, needed a marquee for their historic Virginia theater on 47th street built in 1929.

The solution, inspired by the proportions and materials of the facade, breezed past the Landmarks preservation commission and quickly blended in with the streetscape.
